Welcome the new edition of Mobify Weekly! Here are some cool news stories that we’ve run across during the week. Enjoy!

Google CEO: Smartphones Will Outsell PCs by 2012 This is bold statement, but if anyone has got access to metrics that would back this up it’s Google.

Mobile Web, Stop Being Average! The path to mobile web enlightenment lies through navigating past many preconceptions. Mobile: small screens – big picture and those who don’t want to get left in the dust need to get it.

Vodafone’s Web Services Chief Quits A couple of years ago Vodafone hired Microsoft’s Chief of Mobile to run its Internet Services devision. One of the projects, the Vodafone 360, hasn’t performed nearly as well as was hoped. This may be the reason for Web Services Chief’s leaving of the company.

New BlackBerry “PlayBook” Tablet Announced We believe in RIM, we really do, but right now, all we have to go on is what they’ve released to the press and, admittedly, emotions are mixed. We wish them best of luck!

The New BlackBerry Ad Network Service The entry into the mobile ad serving game will be made smoother by RIM’s eager developer base. Only time will tell how the new service stacks up against Apple’s iAds and Google’s AdMob.

Comments, questions – we’d love to hear them! Let us know what you thought of this week’s stories below!

Welcome to the new issue of Mobify Weekly! As we’re wrapping up for the week, we wanted to share some great stories on mobile web that we’ve run across recently.

Mozilla unveils Open Web mobile concept It’s called the “Mozilla Seabird” and its a concept phone designed by Billy May from Mozilla Labs Concept Series. Its slick, sexy and is definitely not going to hit the streets any time soon. The article is food for thought on where the mobile web could be headed in the next few years. An open web mobile device? We certainly wouldn’t mind that.

Nokia Focuses on Connecting the Next Billion People to the Internet Through Mobile Web It’s interesting to think about what exactly Nokia has in store for us. Even with two handhelds in the pipeline (that we know of) the CEO has famously stated that Android and Nokia logos would never be seen together and it makes us wonder what their plan is for catching up to Google and Apple. At the same time, we can’t forget the differences in market share between North America and the rest of the world. While iOS and Android might presently rule the North American markets the picture in Europe and Asia is looking very different.

Mobile Internet Usage Doubles (in Australia) We’re very happy for our mates from Down Under! The stats from the recent survey are showing that more than four in ten Australians access the web through mobile devices. Numbers are fueled by younger, more tech savvy Australians but similar rates of increase are seen in older generations.

In mobile, it’s not apps versus the web. It’s both. There is a common misconception that a mobile web and a native app are mutually exclusive. This couldn’t be farther from the truth and, hopefully, by the end of 2010 more people would recognize each of them for what they are: two vastly different assets in your company’s arsenal. Native apps and web apps target different demographics and should compliment each other.

U.S. Adult Consumers Set to Access Mobile Websites Daily by 2011 If you’ve been following some of the metrics we’ve been posting, this really shouldn’t come as a surprise. Mobile web is exploding and the latest study by the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) gives a good overview of just how real the numbers are. Is 2011 going to be labelled the year of the mobile web?

Rethinking the Mobile Web Great presentation with lots of metrics on all the mobile devices, platforms, and device users across the world. Even though iOS and Android are presently stealing the show, other platforms should still be given due diligence and Yiibu explains why. Some of the numbers may surprise you.

A review of digital agency websites find many of them with their mobile pants down A digital agency that wants to stay cutting edge should have a website that you can visit from your iPhone or BlackBerry. Apparently, not many of them do.

It’s that time again! Our next webinar takes place on Thursday, September 23 at 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT.
